"I choose to support Josephine's Garden because I want the kids in the hospital to feel free during their hospitalization. I've had to be hospitalized so many times at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) and one of the things I looked forward to daily during my stay was my time outside at Josephine's Garden. I feel so free, happy, and relaxed when I am at Josephine's Garden. I want Josephine's Garden to live on forever and continue to be a special place not only for me but for all kids hospitalized at HUMC."
Josephine's Garden opened on July 9, 2012 on the pediatric floor of the Hackensack University Medical Center in memory of Josephine Rispoli, who lost her fight to cancer in 2011. She often spoke with her mom about creating a place children could play while they were in the hospital. On the day she would have turned 8-years old, just as she had planned, the area opened at Hackensack University Medical Center. It features a wishing fountain, a climbing boulder, warrior pole, chalk board and inspirational artwork. Her mother, Heidi Rispoli, said if her daughter were here today, she would "climb on the boulder and then she'd carve her name in the warrior pole and leave her mark to say 'I fought the fight.'"
